4.4 Transmission: Making Life Easier.

The reason behind turned out to be a lack of communication. To get things straight, the following procedure has been set up. It serves to improve the data flow between players, organizers and the rating secretary. The tasks must be done step by step, if you want your tournament to be rated:

  1. Announce the tournament to the players and to the rating secretary. The announcement must contain a statement that the tournament is ment to be rated.

  2. Get a current list of all players (See section 5.1 The Current Ratings.). The data is in the file rating.zip.

  3. On the day of the event the organizer compares the names of the players during the registration phase with the downloaded list. In case of contradictions or ambiguities, ask the player. He decides, how his name is to be spelled. Include the date of birth in order to make the player's identity unique.

  4. The fundamental data for rating are the cross-tables. The organizer e-mails the cross-tables to the rating secretary. He must include remarks, if he changes the names of some players. The result records of the single games must be kept.

  5. The rating secretary imports the cross-tables to the rating database and updates the player's names. In case of ambiguities he checks with the organizer and imports the corrected data.

  6. After successful import the rating secretary acknowledges the data to the tournament manager and publishs the results.

  7. The organizer may throw away the result records.
