4.1 Player Identity: Who is Who?

By now the players are solely identified by their name. I.e., the names must be unique by any means. If the rating secretary is not extremely pedantic, two different players can easily be mistaken for one player: `Maarten van ter Beek' and `Mart˙n van de Beek'. Player names must match exactly in order to denote the same player!

There are several reasons for misspelling names:

4.1.1 Trivial Misspellings.  
4.1.2 Transliterations of Foreign Names.  
4.1.3 Different Spellings Relating to the Same Pronunciation.  
4.1.4 Name is not Unique.  
4.1.5 Mixing up Prenames and Surnames.  
4.1.6 Pet names ans Short Forms.  

To avoid all that, follow the procedure outlined below (See section 4.4 Transmission: Making Life Easier..).
